Proof of principle orchestration tool for modular hardware

One topic that come up somewhat regularly is how to document more modular projects where there are a potentially infinite number of configurations.

OpenFlexure has already focussed on automated documentation, with renders where every single assembly diagram is updated each time the CAD updates.

A number of us (@jmwright, @drayde, @eric) set out on an NLNet project to see if we could automatically orchestrate documentation for the nimble.

We are well on the way to our nimbling success (we hope). But as part of the project we have started to generalise the software that customises the CAD, and transfers this information into the documentation. The project is called CadOrchestrator (repo, package, & docs).

The tools isn’t really ready for the prime time yet, but it works as a proof of principle. We have made this little customisable cup stand as an example:
