I think it makes more sense to build everything on top of Wikidata. Similar to what the Scholia project has done, or even using the infrastructure of that project:
Right, Wikibase is built around a set of extensions for Mediawiki, so a Wikibase instance is always a Mediawiki instance.
As I see it the questions are:
(a) Does the Wikibase.cloud project would welcome uses that arenât actually centered around the use of the Wikibase features proper?
From the language on their webiste I wouldnât assume they would. And if they made an exception it would be, well, an exception, and thus not a priority.
(b) Does GOSH get enough benefit from not contributing to a universal world-writable wiki like Wikiversity, which is already available, maintained, well integrated with the other Wikimedia projects, with full multilingual support, and could eventually lead to effortless integration with knowledge from other OSH communities that would also adopt it (OSHF perhaps)?
And I mean, we could right now create a en.wikiversity.org/wiki/GOSH page and start working on subpages, in parallel with, e.g., a es.wikiversity.org/wiki/GOSH site, linking respective pages through https://www.wikidata.org/ entities. So the only possible gain I see of having our âownâ wiki would be write restrictions. But for information that weâd need to restrict write access we already have this forum, so if we organize properly the world-writable aspect shouldnât matter much and could actually prove positive.
