Community Stories

Hi all,

I am happy to share that the first GOSH@10 story is live on the OSHF blog, featuring one of our Community Council members @Jay_ozone. I wrote this blog post after talking with Dara for almost an hour, learning about how he came to GOSH by way of the broader open hardware and open science communities. It was an excellent conversation, and very inspiring.

Our talk was part of a broader effort to collect stories of GOSH’s impact and evolution over the course of the last 10 years. I introduced the GOSH@10 initiative earlier this month, and am looking forward to collecting and sharing more stories throughout the year.

If you’d like to join me for an interview about your experience with GOSH, please feel free to contact me here or via email at jamaica@openhardware.science. If you want to share a story but aren’t up for a formal interview, you’re welcome to submit one on your own time here.

Cheers,
Jamaica

Hi all,

I am happy to share the next in the series of GOSH@10 stories, this one tracing the involvment and conributions of @Suleiman01.

His is a really interesting story, highlighting the important and often behind-the-scenes work of governance in supporting (and being supported by) communities like GOSH. Many of you might know Suleiman from his involvement in facilitating the creation of some governance structures earlier in GOSH’s evolution - I was personally super interested to learn about how his expertise in participatory governance informed not only his own career path, but also helped create connections with many of you.

The story is up now on the OSHF blog, if you’d like to give it a read. If you’re interested in the topic of community governance, do stay tuned as it won’t be too long before we begin the process of identifying new Community Council representatives to replace those cycling out this year.

Kind regards,
Jamaica

I am excited to share two new additions to the GOSH@10 story series, this time featuring Nico Méndez (@naikymen) and María Castéllo (@MariaC).

Nico’s story traces the development of Open Lab Automata and reflects on the role the reGOSH Residences and the Collaborative Development Program played in helping move his work from early prototyping toward broader use. María’s story centers on public engagement with neuroscience through the ANT Collective and the role open hardware can play in making scientific exploration more accessible, interactive, and hands-on.

Both Nico and María’s work have been supported over a period of years by the connections they have made and sustained here in the GOSH community. As we move forward in our preparation for the Gathering in Nepal, I have also been working behind the scenes to build out a new plan for community engagement and prepare for the launch of a new - funded! - Ambassador program. I am excited to see these plans come to fruition, and to continue fostering the kinds of connections and support that have made GOSH what it has been for the last ten years.

Cheers,
Jamaica
