A European standard for measuring how easy it is to repair stuff

Looks interesting, I couldn’t figure out how to download the standard itself though. Probably not an open standard.

Need to read this in detail. Appendix A4 seems really detailed when it talks about simple but crucial concepts such as categorising tools, into

  • Basic tools (hammer, screwdriver soldering iron, etc)
  • Product group specific tools
  • Other commercially available tools
  • Proprietary tools

It also classifies depth of disassembly, reuse/re-moveability of fasteners, the working environment, skill level, part availability and more. Very cool. We should think about reusing some of these concepts in and documentation tools/guidance.

Meanwhile in France they are doing their own thing, but it seems like they would like this to be expanded EU wide too. A good discussion of the pros and cons of their approach:
