Workshop on Citizen Science with Application to Nuclear, Seismic and Air Quality Monitoring

Saw this event at ICTP in Italy - some travel grants available

Starts 9 Mar 2020
Ends 20 Mar 2020
Deadline 9 Jan 2020
In this workshop we will present new advances in Citizen Science and we will try to understand how to balance low cost scientific tools and academic rigor. We will present several examples of successful Citizen Science projects, including nuclear monitoring, seismic sensors and air quality monitoring.

Topics:

  • Sustainable Development Goals and the role of technology
  • 3D printing and the FabLab revolution
  • Fast advances in low cost sensors and detectors
  • Benefits from advances in signal processing, analysis and transmission
  • Statistical inference in scientific reasoning
  • The role of inexpensive technology in Citizen Science
  • What to do with data from Citizen Science Projects
  • Open Access to data
  • Practical work on the development of low cost nuclear radiation monitors, seismic sensors and air quality monitors.

Grants :

A limited number of grants are available to support the attendance of selected participants, with priority given to participants from developing countries. There is no registration fee.
