Relaunching the GOSH Ambassador Program!

Hi all,

I am delighted to report that, following period of assessment and revision, the Community Council is announcing the relaunch of the GOSH Ambassador Program!

While the goal of the program remains the same - to support community members in serving as ambassadors for GOSH within their local and professional networks - several changes have been made in response to feedback received at the close of the 2024-2025 cycle. Among these changes include greater scaffolding, revised selection criteria, and - notably - microgrants to support Ambassador outreach activities (you are welcome to read the full Implementation Plan here).

Applications for the new program will open July 1. Prior to that, we are seeking folks willing to serve on the Ambassador Program Working Group. Primary responsibilities of the Working Group will be to:

  • Facilitate Ambassador Program communications
  • Review applications and select 2026-2027 Ambassadors
  • Convene regular meetings (once every two months) to check in with and support Ambassadors
  • Oversee and complete end-of-cycle reporting to the Community Council

Generally, it is expected that service on the Working Group might require roughly 4 hours a month between mid-June 2026 and the end of August 2027. Per the Program timeline, July of this year might require a few additional hours to review applications.

The Working Group will be supported by me, your friendly Community Coordinator, and @Marita, Community Council liaison. We are hoping to recruit up to three people to serve on the Working Group.

If you are interested in joining the Working Group please contact me by June 1 at jamaica@opensciencehardware.org. You can also direct any questions my way, however if you are comfortable sharing your questions here in this thread, please do so - the answers will likely be helpful to others.

Hi Jamaica, I would be interested as I would like to help support the growth and promotion of open science hardware but I am wondering how much prior experience within his forum and community is expected for the role? I have been slowly introducing open hardware and open science software to my working group at Glasgow Uni and am slowly doing my own outreach within my community, but have yet to take that to the wider world so unsure if I would be suitable.

Hey Kern! Thanks for raising this important question.

There is no experience required to serve on the Ambassador Program Working Group. In fact, doing so is an excellent way to learn more about the community and become more involved in it.

I’ll reach out via direct message to follow up - thanks so much for your interest!

Cheers,
Jamaica

Hi all,

I am delighted to report that we had strong interest in the call for Ambassador Program Working Group members. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest!

I am going to close the call for new working group members now, however if you are interested in being involved please reach out to me at jamaica@opensciencehardware.org so we can work out some way to make that happen.

If you are interested in serving as a GOSH Ambassador this year please also stay tuned - the application period will open in early July.

Cheers,
Jamaica
