The LOT network (Wikipedia page) seeks to reduce the risk of patent infringement. However, it only seems to address patent trolls (PAEs), and does not prevent member companies from suing one another.
Are there other groups like this for companies and universities to help mitigate some of the risk of patent infringement? And how effective can these groups be with the current issues with the patent system (in the US and globally)?
