Was the system account for this instance compromised?

I don’t believe so. The channel this was “posted” to is “Consolidated Community Announcements,” which is set up to push posts across multiple organizations’ channels simultaneously (see here). I believe what happened is that the spam was posted to a different community’s channel and that it was pushed here.
