GOSH Writing Sprints 2021-2022

Hey everyone!

In 2021-2022 the GOSH community will host a series of writing workshops, in the form of community writing sprints, to develop guidance on Open Science Hardware (OScH) aimed at research funders, academic institutions (particularly technology transfer offices), and science policymakers: stakeholders who we view as key in enabling ubiquitous adoption of OScH. The aim is to complete briefs in situ that can be distributed to target audiences via specialist press outlets, specific events, and the GOSH community network.

For the 2021-2022 writing sprints, the plan is to host the first workshop in February, with the objective of developing guidance on OScH for technology transfer offices, in addition to a future workshop aimed at providing guidance for research funders. We will also be opening up submissions for proposals from the GOSH community for smaller writing workshops or visiting collaborations to scope research topics, conduct literature reviews and develop further policy advice aimed at specific audiences that take into account the broader context of OScH and open science.

Feel free to share any ideas/thoughts you have on the 2021-2022 writing sprints as updates will continue to be shared via the GOSH website and community forum!

That is a great! I am interested to give my input. Do you have a specific day for the workshop in february?
Also, I am wondering how do we align this with our great GOSH roadmap? is it an update? or something totally new?.

Anyway, I am happy to contribute and share some aspects of Technology Transfer (TT) I found in my thesis (in french).

Hi Thomas! For the first workshop, here are two potential dates and times:

  • Wednesday, February 17th at 15:00 UTC

  • Monday, February 22nd at 15:00 UTC

Do either of these work for you? If so, we could try and coordinate a different time. Would you also have interest in helping convene this first workshop? I know @jcm80 is willing to convene as well, but since you are happy to contribute I wanted to ask you as well.

I will be sending out a form for submissions sometime this week as well, for people to fill out if they are interested in attending and/or convening one or more of the workshops.

In terms of where this fits with the GOSH roadmap, I think that with the focus on providing guidance to institutions/research funders/policymakers, these writing sprints address the recommendations laid out by the Support section of the GOSH roadmap, specifically institutional support, and support from funders  .
