Edit: I’m older and sometimes can get confused. If this isn’t the kind of thing GOSH is involved in (maybe this is an open source elctronics organization), please let me know and I’ll take the post down.
I’m a backyard engineer and builder from Utah, USA. I’ve been intersted in using lightweight insulating concrete (LWIC aka aircrete aka foamed concrete) to improve the thermal resistance of brick and block infill wall homes in the global South. The biggest hurdle, in my mind, is the price of mixing equipment.
After 2.5 years of work, I’ve finally managed to design a DIY mixer that can be built using a regular “tumbler style” concrete mixer, $50 USD in scrap steel, and a 120L HDPE drum. It works really well.
I’m also developing building assemblies to deal with the problem I mentioned above. Hoping to connect with engineers associated with GOSH to lend a hand as I need some proper engineering help with this stuff.
The test wall in the image below is an ordinary cinderblock wall with 15CM lightweight insulating concrete. It improves the thermal resistance 10X.
