Hello GOSH friends,
Aspiration’s annual Dev Summit is happening 15-17 November in Oakland, California USA. This will be our 20th anniversary event, which feels weird and wonderful to be typing.
Our collaborative gathering welcomes everyone from free and open software and hardware developers, to grassroots activists and campaigners, to journalists and policy advocates, to movement lawyers and fundraisers . The community comes together from across the region and around the world to share knowledge, build relationships, and collectively envision the future of free, open and equitable digital tools and practices to support social change.
We talk much less about software development that the event name might suggest, and much more about how digital technology can equitably, appropriately and accountably empower racial, social, and climate justice movements.
For those not able to join us in person, or just wanting more Dev Summit Fun, we also plan to host another Virtual Ephemeral Dev Summit Session online on Thursday 9 November.
We will also be holding a pre-event on “Movement Hosting” on Tuesday 14 November. Discussion on that day will focus on what can do to provide viable alternatives to services provided by the large tech platform companies.
Full information is here, including our COVID protocols, on which we welcome feedback and questions:
Sliding scale registration, scholarships are available. Please get in touch with us if we can help support your participation.
We hope to see you in November. Let us know if you have any questions about the agenda or how to host a session at the summit.
thanks & peace,
