Hi All
Tl;dr: Apply to postdoc on engineering open protein expression strains at University of Cambridge (deadline 2 Apr 2024)
My research group, Open Bioeconomy Lab at the University of Cambridge, is looking for a postdoc with E.coli strain engineering experience to develop open-source IP-free protein expression strains. Please spread the word via X and LinkedIn.
The UK Engineering Biology Mission Award grant that funds this position (OpenBioMAPS) is focused on tools for the UK biomanufacturing community but of course they’ll be open, so hopefully have global benefit including through the GOSH community.
The current workhorse strain BL21(DE3) has been around since 1986, patents are now expired but it is still tied up in material transfer agreements and contracts that restrict its use. Let’s rethink this!
