$300-1,000 mini-grants to support boots-on-the-ground science communication

Skype a Scientist is offering $300-1,000 mini-grants to support boots-on-the-ground science communication. The Science IRL mini-grants will support projects that put either 1) important science messages or 2) fun, whimsical science messaging in front of people in your community IRL.

Please employ a feelings-forward approach in your project design. Consider how you want your project to make people feel and the resultant actions you want them to take.

Please only request the amount of money necessary for your project to work. Skype a Scientist is a scrappy nonprofit without much excess funding, and we want to enable your scrappy science communication too. This is a pilot program, so feel free to give feedback on our process at SkypeAScientist@gmail.com.

In addition to funding, awardees will be able to scheme with Skype a Scientist staff about implementation of their projects, if desired. You do not need to be a scientist or professional science communicator to apply. This funding can can be used to support a new or existing project.

Applications open on January 16th and close on February 14th, 2025
