Vinícius R. Cota is currently a Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellow at the Rehab Technologies Lab of the Italian Institute of Technology, in Genova, Italy. His project is to develop a novel paradigm of closed-loop neuroprosthesis technology for inducing robust and permanent brain plasticity for motor rehabilitation. He also has a faculty position of associate professor level III in the Department of Electrical Engineering of Universidade Federal de São João Del-Rei (UFSJ) in the field of Neuroengineering, which is currently on hold for this sabbatical period. He received his bachelor degree of Electrical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 2002, and received his PhD in Bioinformatics from the same institution in 2007. During his doctorate, Vinícius studied temporal dynamics of neural networks in Epilepsy, aiming at EEG feature extraction for seizure prediction and the usage of electrical stimulation for seizure suppression. During his postdoctoral fellowship in the International Institute of Neuroscience of Natal - Edmond and Lily Safra, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, he investigated causal relations between states of the sleep-wake cycle and memory consolidation, according to Hebbian postulates. At UFSJ, he researched neuroengineering as a means to treat epilepsy. He is the founder and leader of the Laboratory of Neuroengineering and Neuroscience (LINNce). He is also a member of the Research and Development Council of Open Science Brazil initiative.
