GOSH talk at Tech4Dev 2018? (UNESCO Chair in Technologies for Development: Voices of the Global South 27-29 June 2018 | EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland)

Thanks Jeny,
I think question 1 can be solve by collaboration between scientists from high income countries and those from look income countries through exchange of ideas through a forum like GOSH, AFRICAOSH, GOAT ect, and by organising conferences and summit where people can show there community works and and workspace given others the opportunity to learn from them and exchange ideas.

I am interested is there any funding for people from low income countries like mine who will love to participate and share ideas on what we face on technology development in our local communities?

The deadline for funding passed some time ago, but yes this conference does have some travel support.

Good point! This meeting is always held in Lausanne because itā€™s organised by the UNESCO Chair in Technologies for Development at EPFL so they keep it on home turf. Why the Chair isnā€™t held in the global South I donā€™t knowā€¦

Unfortunately the call for contribution was closed months agoā€¦ I posted the original on this forum at the time it was open. But yes, there were full grants available. Keep an eye open for next year!

Full disclosure: I cannot speak for the organisers as I was only invited to chair a session on open science, but I specifically invited Thomas to co-chair with me to have a balanced opinion. What I can say is basically what can be retrieved from a simple internet search: the UNESCO chairs were set up over 25 years ago https://en.unesco.org/unitwin-unesco-chairs-programme. They are located in institutions all over the world (complete list available here: https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/list-unesco-chairs.pdf) so have a look, you may find out there are many events sponsored by UNESCO in the global south. This one is organised by EPFL on the theme they work on here. More info here: https://cooperation.epfl.ch/UnescoChair. From what I know, it is trying to be as inclusive as technically possible. Again, if you need more information, please contact them directly.

I know @thomasmboa is planning to organise an event after the conference. I will unfortunately not be around, but Hackuarium is ready to host. You know the placeā€¦ so it may require some more space. Times have changed since the water hackathon in 2014  but Iā€™d love to see something happen. Hackuarium could even set apart limited funding to help it happen.
