A colleague organizing a session for the UN Science Summit 2026 has reached out seeking a potential GOSH representative to participate as a speaker. They are specifically seeking presenters who can speak to the role of open hardware in global health and education.

Hey Jamaica,
I’m interested. Happy to talk about my work with the circumVent project, which focused on delivering effective covid ventilation in places, particularly in low and middle income countries, that did not have available ICUs. Can also talk more about my ongoing work since 2022 on epilepsy diagnosis and management for the ~75% of the world’s population that does not have access to the discipline of neurology.
It comes with the caveat that these interventions are not strictly open-source devices – any public health intervention is more than just a device, it’s a mishmash of designing an intervention, making sure that your intervention is effective, training medical workers, ensuring access to devices in medical points of care, making sure that your intervention is effective, developing/iterating on a protocol for their use, collecting data on the effects of the intervention, and working with the medical and public health professionals in the country where it’s being deployed.
