Attendees

@Analia, @leosehn, @Moritz, @agnieszka, @Zengirl2, (maybe @jeff) …

Summary

Participant shared their interest and concerns about the need of balance between decentralization and centralization. Also data storage and. which role plays ethics and what stop ope data movement. We decided to pick one of the topic related to how we are force from childhood to use private products to start the discussion. Sometimes people thinks that google is open because it is free. However there are open alternatives to achieve the same objectives. This challenges the social construction to use some softwareReturning to children and education, we asked ourselves why there is no mandatory to use linux at schools, for example, as a way to impact children from the very beginning of their education. Share GOSH values at schools (google this already) We can think about strategies for the future to impact this sector of society (children and youth). One option would be to propose OSH projects at schools.
Finally, there is still a challenge to make OSH communities to be more connected with eachother, since we know that there are “there” but still not enough connected.

Notes

From the prior post its the mail question that arised were related to

  1. Data giants and free and open source tech
  2. Iot Sandbox (p2p binfrastructure for sensor data)
  3. How we are independwnt from our organizations
  4. How the system force us to use private products since childhood
  5. Cooperative. business models
  6. Possibility of a free and responsible network media
  7. No more google
  8. Science internatiolizacion vs. Knowledge colonization equal to data exploitation and data extractivism

We decided to pick one of the topic related to how we are force from childhood to use private products. Sometimes people thinks that google is open because it is free. However there are open alternatives to achieve the same objectives. This challenges the social construction to use some software.

It should be taken into consideration that sometimes google products meet the criteria from the goals that we want to achieve. For instance, when doing activisms. Sometimes you need to prioritize one activism over another

Bridge divide about what to use depends on culture and social perspective.

How do we strength gosh community on this topics? One idea is to start with language, replace the idea of Cloud for the idea of Fog. Also there is a need to be more in contact within the community. Are the current open tools listening each other and ope to listen what people need?

Returning to children and education, we asked ourselves why there is no mandatory to use linux at schools, for example, as a way to impact children from the very beginning of their education. Share GOSH values at schools (google this already) We can think about strategies for the future to impact this sector of society (children and youth). One option would be to propose OSH projects at schools.
Finally, there is still a challenge to make OSH communities to be more connected with each other, since we know that there are “there” but still not enough connected. One option would be to include GOSH agenda into thers open data conferences, workshops, etc. Also would be interesting to list the open science organization around the world or to find other alternatives to GOSH forum information. We identify that there is a need to centralize the decentralization of all the information related to OSH so as to make it more accessible and to start linking communities. This centralization could give GOSH community more impact.

We should still ask us the question about is GOSH is the place to discuss data centralization. Perhaps it is, perhaps not. We do not have still the answer but: Do we have the best leverage for that or should we work together with other organization to centralize the information into one single voice?
